What would be your reaction if I told you that you parent was Zeus? What if all your memory was taken away? What if I took you from your family? What if I wiped you mind and put you in a whole new land? What if I completely change your world? What if I take everything that you thought you knew and changed it in a flash of light? You would think that I was crazy right. Maybe even that I was struck by a lightning bolt from Zeus. This seems like a lot at once, but these were the types of questions Jason Grace had to answer.
Before I go into the book review a little bit of a back round is needed. In the old days in Ancient Rome, the gods had their main home. This is where the center of Olympus was. The gods had children with mortals there and they would be demigods. They followed the Roman Aspects of the gods. When Rome eventually took over Greece. The gods area of power changed. The than took on a different form and a different way of ruling. When the gods had children with mortals in this aspect, the children followed the Greek mythology and aspects of the Gods. During this time their was a disputer between the demigods that followed the Roman and Greek aspects. This caused a war and the Roman demigods stayed in Rome and the Greek demigods went to New York. To this day the gods have to be in many places at once to satisfy both groups. Hera, the queen of the gods and family, wants her family to be reunited. Just as there is a Camp Half-Blood for Greek demigods, there is a Camp Half-Blood for Roman demigods. Hera hatched a plan to bring the family together and Jason is one of the main points.
One day during a field trip in the Wilderness School, Jason randomly appears. His "friends" Piper and Leo think that knew him for a long time but the mist made them think that. The mist is what makes mortals think that they are seeing something else, other than the gods. These two people also find out that they are demigods in the future. While on this trip, they are attacked by monsters and they have to be taken to Camp Half-Blood in New York. At this point Jason has no idea who he is, where he is, who these people are that are calling him friend, he is just not having a good day at all. While at Camp Half-Blood he finds out who he is. His name is Jason and he was put there as part of a plan Hera is hatching.
In the book a character states, "Love is a power that will bring anyone to their knees, even the gods themselves." This is very true to the book. The whole plan that Hera made is made through love for her family and she just wants them to be together again. During Hera's mission she is captured by other "B list" gods as she calls them. They were going to kill her to awaken their leader from the past. Jason and his friends Piper and Leo who also find out they are demigods. They play a pivotal role in Hera's secret mission. Leo even said "Danger, why thats my middle name," not knowing how much danger they really were going to be in. They were in many fights with mythical monsters and other gods themselves.
At the end of the book, Hera's plan is told to everyone and now they realize what she is trying to do. The cage that Hera was trapped was broken down by Leo and Piper while Jason was fighting another goddess. while all this craziness was going on, everyone back at Camp Half-Blood was still looking for Percy. They finally find out when Jason was taken from his camp, Percy was taken from his and they were switched. Jason got his memory back after rescuing Hera, who took it from him. Now everything is finally at peace, that is until the next mission in Hera's plan.
