My Opinion On Greek Mythology

I think that mythology is one of the most interesting topics to learn about. i love to read their stories, view their crazy family line, and all that type of stuff. i think that their stories are some of the best to read. They are really very interesting. It seems that even though they all were family, they all were at war all the time. That amuses me.

I know that these are all very interesting things to read about, but i do not really believe they exist. I believe that people made them up long ago to explain things that we have explanations of now. Do not take me wrong, i am not calling anyone's ideas wrong for believing in them in the past but now I do not think they are real. Also if I believed in them that would go against my religion, because it is believing in other gods then the real one. When i say real one, I mean real one in my religion.

Even though I do not believe in them i will continue to read their stories, and books about them. I think that it would be worth while for anyone to read them. Well i hope that you like my short paragraphs about the gods/ goddesses and enjoy the rest of my project! :D

These blogs were hard to make a rubric for, so I was thinking what can I do. I came to the conclusion that they are like open ended responses each one a paragraph to make a whole essay. So in my blog posts I used the rubric that is given to open ended responses the question that I answered were...

Also with the rubric I couldn't add what I think about the text because there was no text so I added my opinion on Greek mythology.

Hermes: God of Travelers

Roman Name: Mercury
Parents: Zeus and Maia

Biography: Hermes was a clever God and was Zeus's messenger. During times of war he was the peace bringer between the gods. He gave travelers peaceful dreams during their journeys. The lyre was made by Hermes and was given to Apollo as a gift. Hermes gave messages to the gods and was very peaceful. One of his jobs was lead the dead to Hades's Underworld. This god accomplished many things that the other gods thought they were too good to do.

Dionysus: God of Wine

Symbols: Grape Vine, or Wine
Roman Name: Bacchus
Parents: Zeus and Semele

Biography: Dionysus is the god of wine because this is what he invented. He was always known for loving the theater and is honored in springtime festivals. He is very forgiving and gave many people special abilities while forgiving them, this includes Midas and his golden touch. When the gods switched to their Greek aspect he became less savage and threw more parties and giant festivals.

Aphrodite: Goddess of Love

Symbols:Ocean, Seashells, Dolphins, Evening star, Triangles,Rose, and Any Shades of Light Blue
Roman Name: Venus
Parent: Dione and Zeus

Biography: It has been claimed that Aphrodite was born of the ocean. She is said to have come out of the foam and that is why many of her symbols are from the sea. She is noted to be extremely beautiful. Her beauty was so immense that Zeus ordered her to be married for two reasons. The gods would fight over who would marry her and second she was married to Hephaestus and he was noted to being extremely ugly. He also was no threat to the other gods. People's love for her brought them to their knees and started wars between each other. She had the ability to charm speak. This makes people more willing to do what she says. Although she could have persuaded people with ehr charm speak she was able to get them to do what she wants without it.

Apollo: God of Healing and Music

Symbols: Lyre, the Sun, Chariot, laurel-wreath crown,
Roman Name: Apollo, he was not given another name
Parents: Leto and Zeus

Biography: Apollo may have been the most loved of the Olympian gods. When he was not telling people how to cure the sick, he was playing music for the gods. He is also the god of honesty and truth. He is said to always tell the truth to the humans. It also is said that he spoke to the humans through the voice of Pythia, a priestess. He was supposedly very handsome and if a monster ever threatened anyone who loved him he shot an arrow through their head. This god was was always loved for being trustworthy, giving education on medicine, and being trustworthy.

Artemis: Goddess of Hunting

Symbols: Bow and Arrow, Moon, Stag
Roman Name: Diana
Parents: Zeus and Leto

Biography: Artemis was the goddess of the hunt and the moon. She is the twin of Apollo, who is the God of the Sun. Artemis is linked with the moon because that is the symbol of purity.Artemis never married and started a group of young maidens. The group, called the hunt went and searched the world for monsters and shot them with arrows. She protected animals and looked after young children. She was very honest with the people. Her honesty did not keep her from sending plagues to the people though.

Demeter:Goddess of the Harvest

Symbols: Harvest, Bread, Honey, Acorns, and Torches
Roman Name: Ceres
Parents: Cronus and Rhea

Biography: Demeter was very giving to the mortals. She gave them bountiful harvest when she was pleased but gave them famines when she was angry with them. She taught the mortals how to sow and plant seeds. She also is a Goddess of fertility. When her daughter, Persephone, was taken by Hades she searched the Earth for her.

Hephaestus: God of Craftsmen

Symbols: Fire and the Blacksmith's Hammer
Roman name: Vulcan
Parents: Zeus and Hera

Biography: Of all the gods and goddesses on Mt. Olympus, Hephaestus was the least good looking. In fact his mother Hera, hated him for his looks. She threw him down the stairs of Mt. Olympus. To get back at Hera, he trapped her in a magic chair and she had to beg to get out. He was the only god who was born with a handicap, his deformed foot. He was unwillingly married to Aphrodite but loved her. She cheated on him many times but he was content. He is happiest in the forge and is very good natured.

Ares: God of War

Symbols: Vulture and Dog
Roman Name: Mars
Parents: Zeus and Hera

Biography: Ares was always a very bloody person. He always went straight to war without talking about an issue. His parents hated him just like his brother, Hephaestus. He thrived in violence and wars. He was the most savage of all the gods. Although he seems so powerful he is not as powerful as he appeared. There were times when he joined wars and was driven off the the field by mortals. Ares was a blood thirsty animal that showed no mercy to anyone of anything.

Athena: Goddess of Strategy

Symbols: Shield, Olive Branch, and the Owl
Roman Name: Minerva
Parents: Zeus

Biography: Athena was brought forth by massing up the thoughts of Zeus springing out of his head. She was born fully grown and dressed in armor on the battlefield. The way she was born made her hate war, she only waged them to fight for the side of the right people. She never was in a war that she didn't win. She made the best strategies and was great with architecture. She founded the city of Athens and made the first Olive tree. Due to strategy, Athena was noted as one of if not the strongest goddess.

Hera: Queen of the gods

Symbols: Peacock and the Cow
Roman Name: Juno
Parents: Cronus and Rhea

Biography: There was only one thing that Hera wanted, a perfect family. In order to achieve her wish she had to marry the perfect husband and have the perfect children. She got the perfect husband by marrying Zeus, the God of the gods. Sadly she never got perfect children. The only children she had, she hated. She is the goddess of marriage and never cheated on Zeus. Hera did not do much because she was always tending to Mt. Olympus. She helped Zeus in many of his decisions with the other gods.

Hades: God of the Underworld

Symbols:Helmet, Metals, and Jewels
Roman Name: Pluto
Parents: Cronus and Rhea

Biography: Hades was the most hated of all the gods. He was hated so much that he was banish to under the surface of the Earth. There he started the Underworld and all dead spirits must pass through. He was a very lonely god and was very wealthy. One day he went above the surface and tricked Persephone into eating his fruit. This caused her to spend eternity with him. He was very misunderstood and was very powerful. He ruled over the inside of the Earth and was part of the Big three.

Poseidon: God of the Sea and Land

Symbols: Trident, Horse, and Bull
Roman Name: Neptune
Parents: Cronus and Rhea

Biography: Poseidon is the second most powerful God. He is one of the Big Three. He is the ruler of all the oceans and the land. He was constantly searching for land to take from the humans. He dried up the waters of the people he did not trust and sent tidal waves to people who made him angry. He made the horse out of foam and gave it to the humans as a gift. The realm of the oceans was not given too him until the titans were over thrown.

Zeus: The God of the Gods

Symbol: Eagle, Shield, Lightning Bolt, Oak Tree
Roman Name: Jupiter
Parents: Cronus and Rhea

Biography: Zeus is the strongest god of all the gods. He is a member of the Big Three. He is the God of all the Gods. All decisions made by Mt. Olympus were put through him. Zeus was the ruler of the airs. He bent the winds, changed the Moon and Sun, changed the seasons, and caused storms. When he was angry at people he hurled lightning bolts at them. Many powerful people were fathered by Zeus and he made many people fall in love with him. Zeus married Hera who was very loyal, unfortunately Zeus was not so much.
